I'd rather dance with you...

... than talk with you...

I am an unconditional fan of the Norwegians Kings of Convenience (and their other band: The Whitest Boy Alive). Their music, their lyrics, their videos are all creativeness! I still have not had the chance to see them live but will not die without doing so. I heard that apart from being good musicians, they are really funny and enjoy "petit comitè"concerts rather than big things. I wouldn't expect anything different from them.

This song and its video are my favorites of the band. Behind what you may at first think are modest lyrics, I believe there is a subtle description of a kind of human behavior ... but that is only my opinion. Make your own interpretation ;-)

I'd rather dance with you than talk with you
So why don't we just move into the other room
There's space for us to shake and hey, I like this tune
Even if I could hear what you said
I doubt my reply would be interesting for you to hear
Because I haven't read a single book all year
And the only film I saw, I didn't like it at all

I'd rather dance, I'd rather dance than talk with you
I'd rather dance, I'd rather dance than talk with you
I'd rather dance, I'd rather dance than talk with you

The music's too loud, and the noise from the crowd
Increases the chance of misinterpretation
So let your hips do the talking
I'll make you laugh by acting like the guy who sings
And you'll make me smile by really getting into the swing

Getting into the swing, getting into the swing
Getting into the swing, getting into the swing
Getting into the swing, getting into the swing
Getting into the swing, getting into the swing

I'd rather dance, I'd rather dance than talk with you
I'd rather dance, I'd rather dance than talk with you
I'd rather dance, I'd rather dance than talk with you

Glenn Miller

I woke up in a romantic mood today. I guess it is the autumn and the cloudy weather. And what best way to accompany this mood than to listen some of the classics.

Some friends say I was born in the wrong period, that I seem to belong to the first half of XX century.... my looks? my personality? my tastes? Probably it's just the music I listen to sometimes. I am really fond of the jazz/swing/blues American classics: Benny Goodman,  John Coltrane, Louis Amstrong, Dave Brubeck, ... and of course Glenn Miller (1904 - 1944).

I owe this passion for the classics to my dad. I remember when I was a kid that sometimes first thing he did in the morning on weekends was to play these out from old vinyls (and cds later on.. ) that would invade the entire house and get us all in the same mood. I guess, that is the reason why I enjoy them this much.

And now, I sometimes do the same on weekend morning's. I press the random button in the classic's playlist and enjoy a relaxed Sunday morning while having breakfast, reading the newspaper, get some work done or simply just let my imagination fly with the music.

I'll leave some links to my favorite Glenn Miller's pieces and to his wiki page - his story is wonderful. I was surprised to read the way he died: his plane disappeared in the English channel when flying to Paris to play for the soldiers. Miller had joined the war effort during World War II and got together an Army Band to entertain and encourage soldiers. His plane was never found.

Life Arising ...

... And that is the feeling I get when listening to Perpetuum Mobile from the prolific English band: Penguin Cafe Orchestra.

These are the words that this song brings to my mind: life arising, traveling, excitement, no barriers, springtime, folk, harmony, no boundaries, opportunities, first times, sailing, awakening, happiness.

Totally recommended to make your spirit travel to nice places. Because that is what this blog is about.
